Power of Gratitude

We at TAP are great believers in the power of gratitude. It’s a simple yet transformative act, that can have a profound impact on our mental health and well-being.

It’s no secret that being praised makes us feel good and increases feelings of self-esteem and well-being.

We know that feeling when someone in the workplace recognises our efforts and says “thank you” or “you did a great job”. However in our busy lives the time and good intentions to say thanks can easily slip. Yet the power of thanks and gratitude is intrinsic to our sense of personal well-being.

Gratitude itself is associated with higher levels of life satisfaction. It is also linked to lowering levels of depression and anxiety, supporting our perceptions of positive relationships (Wood et al, 2010) and fostering a sense of social connectedness.

The positive effect of gratitude, however, is relatively short-lived and for praise to have a long-lasting impact on staff well-being, it needs to be given regularly: “Recognition is a short-term need that has to be satisfied on an ongoing basis”.

That’s precisely why TAP was created in the first place. To make it easier to regularly share messages of thanks, quickly, easily and securely with those that deserve it.
